About Spangle
Playwright and actor Annie Massey founded Spangle Theatre as a home for theatrical endeavours. She is delighted to welcome this group of talented artists and crew as associates for the 2025 Toronto Fringe Festival as they present the satirical comedy Stealing Home.
Our shows
Spangle’s current show, Stealing Home, is part of the 2025 Toronto Fringe and plays at the Alumnae Theatre for seven performances in July.
Stealing Home is full of random characters who meet in a fictional Toronto neighbourhood, leading to surreal encounters and life-changing confrontations about theft and homelessness. Yet at its core, the play asks a serious question: Who really are the thieves?
This play - then named Pave Paradise - was performed in St James Park, Toronto, over four weekends in August 2024 at the invitation of the Old Town BIA. Director Pat McCarthy returns to bring the play indoors, after directing it in a public park, deftly handling downpours, cathedral bells, sirens, and a wedding party walking across the stage.

Highlights of Annie’s writing and acting.
Annie writes plays.
As a playwright, Annie loves throwing random characters into absurd situations and seeing what happens. Recent comedies include Christmas at the Roadside Diner, about food and accidents in rural Ontario, Lizard Season, about alien conspiracy theories, Waiting for Mark, a riff about being on Facebook while deceased, and Thisbe and the Lion, a reworked ending for Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Stealing Home is her first time at the Toronto Fringe. As Pave Paradise, this play was performed outdoors in St James Park, Toronto, in August 2024 at the invitation of the Old Town BIA.
